26 Jan

Two days after the release of his debut studio album Strange Weekend, New York’s Porcelain Raft has released the video for the standout track “Unless You Speak From Your Heart,” which he himself acts in and directs. The video is all kinds of spacey, with quirky humour thrown in here and there, all the while coming across as a strange take on a Calvin Klein or Hugo Boss commercial. Check out the video in the player above.

Strange Weekend is out now via Secretly Canadian, and if you have yet to hear the album, head here to give it a listen.

WATCH: St. Vincent performs “Cheerleader” on Conan

17 Jan

Kicking off this week’s late night performances is St. Vincent, who visited the set of Conan to perform the song “Cheerleader” from her latest LP Strange Mercy. But, before performing a fantastic live rendition of the track, St. Vincent launched into Elvis Costello’s “Radio Radio” only to stop and say, “I’m sorry ladies and gentlemen, there’s no reason to play that song.” The move, while perhaps unknown to many, was actually a witty acknowledgment of Costello’s infamous 1977 Saturday Night Live performance, of which you can read about here. You can watch the entirety of St. Vincent’s performance here, courtesy of The Audio Perv.

As well, St. Vincent will be performing at this year’s Coachella Music Festival, and will also be co-headlining a series of shows alongside Merrill Garbus, aka the brains behind tUnE-yArDs.

The visuals, created by Walter Robot, takes the song to a dark, noir world full of crime, P.I.’s, gritty locales and a search for a woman. Toronto-based electro-goth band Austra have released the visuals for their song “Spellwork,” and, unsurprisingly, the video is dark and disturbing. With dark steeds, menacing witches, and death, the video makes for a the perfect accompaniment to a gloomy evening.
