Here We Go Magic Details Third LP ‘A Different Ship’

6 Feb

Brooklyn indie rock outfit Here We Go Magic have announced that their third studio album, now titled A Different Ship, will be released on May 8th via Secretly Canadian. Along with the announcement, the band has made the first song from the album, “Make Up Your Mind,” available for download, so feel free to stream it below and grab it here.

When speaking with Stereogum, the band’s frontman Luke Temple said that, when comparingA Different Ship to their last album Pigeons, that Pigeons had a lot more artifice in it. I’m sure there will be haters saying it’s a slick sound, but actually this record is much more organic. This album is just us.” Along with comparing the two works, Temple commented on working with Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich, saying “All in all, it was super great. He’s just fundamentally an easy guy and became a friend. He’s very humble and incredibly efficient with his work. I mean, he is who he is for a reason. It’s like the same feeling I get when you watch short order cooks cracking eggs and the facility with their hands. He’s totally masterful.”

After the jump, you can take a look at the tracklisting for A Different Ship.

Listen: Future Unlimited – “Golden”

6 Feb

While Future Unlimited may sound like the name of a software company from the ’80s, the Nashville duo consisting of David Miller and Samuel D’Amelio is far from that, but they sure as hell take a considerable amount of influence from the decade of unfortunate hairstyles and Ray-Ban sunglasses. The synth-pop duo have taken all their influences from the ’80s, and it shows in their music. Their debut single “Golden,” which premiered on Consequence of Sound yesterday, evokes everything that was great about ’80s synth-pop, with flashy synths and crooning Bowie-esque vocals abound. Give the track a listen below, and head here to download it.

Download: 1,2,3 – ‘Dreamland, Pt. 1 (For Daisy)’ EP

2 Jan

Pittsburgh rockers 1,2,3 have released a little New Years treat for all those needing to cure their hangover woes or lull their babies to sleep in the form of the five-song lullaby Dreamland, Pt. 1 (For Daisy) EP. Frontman Nic Snyder recorded the songs with his bandmates and friends as a present for his baby niece, and the recordings see the band going in a new, more ambient-focused direction. It may be a divergence from the band’s usually energetic sound, but that sound still holds true on this EP, albeit with a more atmospheric and airy influence. TheDreamland, Pt. 1 (For Daisy) EP is available to stream and download for free below.
